About
Darla Jones, Ed.D.
I am the Coordinator of Educational Technology for secondary schools in the Anchorage School District. My mission is to support instruction by promoting the integration of technology into the curriculum in order to prepare our students for life in the 21st Century.
While the challenges facing our public school system are nearly too numerous to list, I continue to be inspired by the success stories I see every day and humbled by the opportunity to affect change during this critical time in our nation’s history.
Rapid advances in brain research combined with the power of emerging technologies are creating a climate never before conceivable in education-a climate where relevant, rigorous, and personalized education is both possible and urgently necessary.
Foundational beliefs driving my educational goals include the following:
- Every child has special gifts–helping to discover and nurture these should be the top priority for every educator
- Every child can learn, and we must challenge our students to reach their full potential
- Equal educational opportunities cannot be achieved without digital equity
- Standardized testing is necessary for accountability, but we must pay equal attention to assessing and acknowledge deeper learning–solving problems, thinking creatively and critically, and working effectively with others
